Help me give my students a Chromebook so they can take turns using the computer to listen to reading, practice with typing and learn how to access learning tools from a computer.
Tucked away between cornfields in central Nebraska is a rural town of about 800 residents. This town's students attend school in one building. The town and the school are united as one, and you will find almost every resident has been involved or is involved with the school in some way. The elementary wing of this school serves a little over 100 students.
Inside, you will find a second-grade classroom with 17 learners with diverse educational, social, emotional, and behavioral backgrounds.
I am their teacher.
In second grade, students come to us as first graders, but we send them off as budding third-graders. We help them transition from primary elementary school to secondary. In the latter part of elementary school, students start to use computers to access and create assignments.
My Project
My students will use this Chromebook as a center during Guided Reading lessons. They will use it to listen to reading and they will open up a document to type words and sentences into to do important "word work." Some of the technology pieces we use are also best accessed on a browser, or do not have apps so this Chromebook will also help there.
My students have access to tablets, but as students progress through school, a computer can be an easier tool to use to get things done.
This Chromebook will give them experience using a computer to do some of the things we already know how to do, and start to familiarize them with a keyboard.
