Dinosaurs Didn’t Read and Now They're Extinct. Coincidence?

My Project
I teach on California's largest federally recognized Native American tribe's reservation. My school serves approximately 75% Yurok students. The campus is nestled amongst the redwoods where they meet the ocean and river. This school is so rich with culture, with traditional Yurok houses in the front, and a handmade dugout canoe as you enter the front doors. Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they thrive vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful for this new group of learners.
If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales, if you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales -Einstein.
I would even change that to teach them to read those fairy tales.
These books represent a brand new appropriately sized library for students to be able to browse through and find stories that will have their imaginations running overtime. Story books are great but almost all of them are written at between a 500 to 700 Lexile. In other words they are meant for adults to read them to students, not to have students enjoy on their own. These books are all at step 1 or below and have a wide variety of characters. I’m sure my future students will love them
