Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a city where crime rates are high, and there is a 98% poverty rate. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with the same creative and meaningful learning experiences that other students are able to have.
Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day.
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My students, although only three and four years-old, are hard workers, and they deserve to come to school and feel safe and loved, and I'm happy to be the one who is able to give them that.
My Project
My students need new center activities to create a fun and exciting learning environment. My students have Center time where they are able to use hands-on materials to practice important skills. Two of the centers are math and abc. In the math center students practice counting and one to one correspondence which is why it would be great to have materials like the Ice-cream counting game, the nuts and bolts counting and the stretch builders to play and learn.
Another one of the centers in ABC, where students work on writing, building and practicing beginning sounds.
Students in preschool benefit from fun activities like find the letter center, build and write, all important components of early literacy.
