My Students

Remember the magic of science class when you were growing up? Physics opens up a world of wonder and excitement for young minds. While learning important concepts, we get to have fun with the coolest toys in school.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds, but one thing I try to instill in each of them is the wonder of science.

The magic of Physics comes alive in my room with interactive projects, hands-on labs, and mind blowing demos that reveal deep misconceptions most of us have about how things work. On the first day of school my students work together to try to understand how Lenz' Law works (without ever having been taught the concept). It's amazing to see the ideas that sprout forth on that first day. From then on, they are constantly challenged and must defend their positions with evidence.

My Project

I am requesting a new projector for my classroom. The current one is incredibly dim and dull. I now have to turn off all of the lights in order to have my students see what is being projected. I have spent my own money to replace the bulb in it already this year but it did not help. My current projector is an older model (production ended on this model 9 years ago... it's been in my room for over 10) that is no longer sold and it needs replaced, but I have been told it will be years before it may get replaced. The projector that is mounted on my ceiling has a max brightness output of 2000 lumens (actual is much, much lower than this). The one I am requesting has more than 50% greater brightness and much better resolution. I will have more flexibility in attaching components to it for for dynamic student led presentations and enhancement videos.

My physics club at school has expressed a lot of interest in analyzing scenes from movies to see if the physics is possible or even plausible.

My current setup cannot really handle this very well and we really want to significantly upgrade our classroom experience. I believe that dynamic, fun activities are the key to unlocking a love of Physics and science. We have competitions regularly in class to ignite such enthusiasm and spark imagination. Physics Olympics events are Phun!!!
