Integrate technology and prepare students for an information technology age! Incorporating more technology in the classroom will both motivate my students and prepare them for the digital literacies used in the real work world.
My students are in grades 3-5 in a Title 1 school.
My students struggle with reading and writing and see me for remedial language arts. Often my students are "shutting down" and almost giving up because their struggles with reading and writing make it difficult for them to succeed in school work.
My Project
I am requesting some materials to use with the computer and projector that we have. The computer and projector can be used more fully if we have a wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, presenter (clicker/laser pointer to move through PowerPoints), and speakers for the computer. These materials would allow us to use the computer for anywhere in the classroom as it projects to the screen in the front of the classroom. We could pass the mouse and keyboard, letting students quickly switch off who is using the computer. My students will be able to co-author texts and presentations. We will also be able to use "white-board ready" PDF files that are available for teachers to project from the computer. I could be close to the students while using the computer instead of racing back and forth from the one computer in the back of the classroom (where all of the network hookups are) to the screen or white board in the front of the room.
These materials will allow me to motivate my students with technology.
They love to use the computer and to use multimedia to learn. Research shows that the multimedia helps students learn through multiple modalities! I can reach students who learn in different ways than the typical school lecture format reaches. Plus, additional experience with computers will help the students prepare for life in an information technology world.
