Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the librarian in a rural-poor area of Texas, reaching over 1,100 students at the high school. In the last year and a half, the teens and teachers at my school have doubled their number of visits to the library and quadrupled the number of books they check out! They are reading!
The library and anime club are filled with motivated students who otherwise might not have found school exciting and rewarding.
I want them to be able to capture their achievements and events, and create displays of what they have done for all to see. This will motivate even more students to get involved in some of the extra-curricular stuff we do in the library! In addition, classes who complete school projects in the library will be filmed and photographed to 1) raise the bar on the quality of their presentations and 2) provide instant feedback on what they have accomplished academically.
My Project
This easy-to-use digital camera will allow for high quality photo shots and video clips. The paper will allow for printing of the finished project, so posters of the students engaged in activities and academics can be placed around the library! The snacks for the literary event will celebrate the photos taken and the books read.
Your funding and support will help ensure my students have access to 21st century technology, using it to market and motivate even more students - in a library!
What better way to engage students in computers, research, reading, and literacy? Engagement in all of these areas will help ensure more go on to further their academic careers in a college setting. Anything you can do to support is greatly appreciated!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
