My Students
Imagination is the beginning of creation! All great projects begin with the question, I wonder what will happen if I? This project is no different. It will allow the students at my school to open their imagination to possibilities and discover what happens next.
The students at my school are digitally savvy.
Most own electronic devices of some sort, and most only use those devices as a communication tool. They call and text each other or use their phones to play games when they are bored. We want to open the minds of our students and show them the limitless potential these electronic devices have to extend their learning and challenge their minds.
My Project
Our school wants to partner with the Disneyland CREATE grant to create a portable iPad/iPod Touch lab that would be available for students to check out immediately upon funding. We want to have the most current technology for our students, but unfortunately the budget does not allow for this. Therefore I am asking for am iPod Touch with protective case and extra chargers, and a portable boom box.
My students will use this technology to meet the California VAPA standard 3.1 which has students create scripts that reflect particular historical periods or cultures. We study ancient civilizations and my students take on the persona of a Greek or Roman god. They will create scripts as this god and create mini documentaries that are filmed with the iPod Touches. This is a way for my students to creatively express their knowledge and extend the curriculum. The speakers will be used during PE to meet Dance standard 2.4 when we create movement with different musical rhythms and styles.
We want to bring digital media with a purpose to our school.
We want our students to have to opportunity to experience what a great creative outlet script writing and film production can be. We also want them to get moving and create dances during our PE instruction, and you can't do that without music! We are hopeful that the Disneyland CREATE grant and other donors can help bring these resources to our school!
