Digital Zeros and Ones Add Up to One Thousand Words

My students need a digital camera for classroom use for learning purposes.

I am an early childhood teacher with an extremely high majority of students' who come from low social, economic backgrounds. The families of my students' are involved, dedicated parents' who long to have their children receive a wonderful education. They want the best for their children and so do I. A digital camera would be a wonderful resource that we do not have at this time. Having access to a digital camera, students' would be able to take various photos around the school for learning purposes. It is also an effective way to excite children about the writing process when used for making their own books and for writing prompts. It would add realism to the students' projects which is very important. For example, if we do a unit on transportation, they would be able to add realistic pictures to their projects. A digital camera will document as well as enhance special activities throughout the year. We will be able to take pictures at social events, on trips, when they go on stage and when they are working and playing in the room. Also, children love to see themselves and their friends all over the room on bulletin boards, charts and in class made books. We can use it for our "All About Me" posters and for "Student of the Week" displays. The smiles and excitement of seeing pictures of themselves and their friends around the classroom would be priceless. I plan to create a scrapbook for each of my students' that shows their learning over the course of the school year. It will make a wonderful keepsake for the children. I plan to use the pictures for all sorts of projects such as mother and father's day gifts and for picture frames. Projects give children a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work. I will also use the camera to create "picture" cards of the vocabulary words they are learning. These projects will bring endless learning opportunities into my classroom. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. I will be able to instill a "learning is fun" atmosphere in my classroom with a new digital camera. Photos will motivate, encourage and build relationships with other children. I believe a digital camera is a key component needed to capture the learning stages of a pre-k and the entire essence of early childhood experiences. Hopefully, this will help ensure that no child is "left behind." My students and I need a digital camera for use in classroom activities. The cost of this proposal is
