Help me give my students the digital thermometers they will need to complete science fair projects as well as in class investigations. The tools for scientific investigations have been improved and innovated and our students deserve those improvements too!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of motivated students who are working hard to create the future of their dreams. Many of them are on track to become first generation college graduates. This year they are being challenged to compete in the district and county science fair, taking on an additional project that will hopefully leave them beaming with pride and accomplishment by the end.
The students will also be exposed to more engineering challenges and science investigations throughout the year.
Using outdated, broken, or dysfunctional equipment does not provide my students with the challenging learning opportunities that they deserve. Functioning science equipment will serve as the data collection tools they need, so they can analyze, interpret, and draw conclusions based on evidence.
My Project
Science equipment has been through countless stages of improvement and cycle of innovation. It is time that our students got practice with the tools of the their future.
In my class students will be challenged to engineer their own "ice packs" after learning about extothermic and endothermic chemical reactions.
An important aspect of the engineering project is data collection - and without the proper tools to collect data, students will be unable to assess the effectiveness of their design.
The students will also be able to use the thermometers for the Science Fair projects, not only this year, but for years to come.
From learning about exothermic reactions, to studying homeostasis and instantaneous changes in their body temperature the data that will come from these thermometers will provide my students with the data analysis opportunities they need today to become the scientists of tomorrow.
