My Earth and Environmental Science classes and the Marine Science classes often test the water in our area. We test all kinds of water: tap water, pond, stream, sound water, and estuarine water. We could really use 8 more cool digital thermometers. Previously, we have used very inexpensively carded thermometers, but the glass bulb slides away from the degree line and our temperatures are inaccurate. Sometimes the thermometer gets dropped and out of calibration or even breaks. We do have a few digital ones, but other teachers have borrowed some and they have not found their way back to my classroom.
With these new thermometers, the student groups can get smaller so that each student has more of a hands-on opportunity.
Each thermometer is easy to use, quicker to give an accurate reading, and much safer for the students. Our results will be more reliable and our data improved.
I have included some candy to use as incentives. My students love rewards.
