My Students
I am a fifth-grade teacher at a suburban Title 1 school located in College Park, Georgia. The vision of the school is that “Every student will possess the educational tools, and best learning practices to achieve academic success in the 21st century.”
My students are a mixed group of learners with different backgrounds.
They are eager to be high achievers and learn something new on a daily basis. I work tenaciously to ensure that that they are receiving a high-quality education. My focus is to bring an enriching and technology-driven classroom to their global learning experience.
To many, this may sound like quite a feat, but to me, it is an honor to be charged with providing educational learning experiences to those that need it the most. Considering the fact that we are in the 21st Century, there are infinite boundaries and endless resources that are available to achieve our goal.
My Project
Digital storytelling will provide my students with opportunities to enhance their problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills in an innovative, creative and hands-on way! Students love to be able to tell their story through books, pictures, and movies. Empowering them with the tool of technology to showcase their ideas is certainly a more creative and inventive way for them to express themselves. Therefore, I want to provide my students with opportunities to become directors, actors, and writers of original stories using applications such as Zooburst, Storybird, and iMovie on the MacBook Pro computer. My goal is to have one group of students use Zooburst to create 3D popup books in augmented reality. This will truly inspire my students to become storytellers in a very unconventional way. I would also like to have another groups of students use Storybird to build books that express ideas about resolving conflict in a positive way. Lastly, I would also like to have a third group of students to use iMovie to create video stories that cover an array of topics such as positive decision-making skills and peer mediation. I am confident that these forms of media will truly spark my students' imaginations and give them the encouragement that is needed to persevere as they collaborate to bring paper texts to life!
