My Students
My students are warriors.
They live in a community with staggering poverty rates and many do not have the greatest home life.
Despite all of the hardships they've faced in their young lives they come to school every day ready and willing to learn. It is my personal mission to make my classroom a second home for them where they can receive the love, care, and support that they need to blossom and grow as learners but more importantly as people.
The system has stacked the odds against these children, many are multiple grade levels behind academically but are still expected to perform on grade level. The pressure that they face is palpable but they are incredibly strong and resilient. I have been absolutely blown away by their grit and determination to do their best day in and day out. The progress and growth they make are astounding and I am blessed to be able to teach such an amazing group of students.
My Project
My project is aimed at helping my students who I am currently teaching virtually. With the teacher pay teacher gift card I will be able to purchase digital resources that they can use at home, like virtual manipulatives and work that can supplement what we have on our online learning platforms. Additionally, the books are fantastic mentor texts that I plan on reading to the students via video call. Each book has many lessons that can be attributed to it which is why they are so amazing. I hope to make virtual learning as pleasant and exciting for my students.
