We are a community of fourth graders, within the School District of Philadelphia, who are very eager to learn.
Our classroom consists of 32 students, a few of which receive special education services, as well as students who are struggling, English-speaking learners.
Being an urban school setting, 100% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunches which means many of my students do not have the resources or tools at home to help reinforce their learning.
Research shows that people remember 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, and 50% of what they hear AND see. By introducing iPads into our classroom, students can work at their own pace and on their own level. This will give my students that extra boost they need.
My Project
Every child can read well with deep comprehension, if they have the appropriate reading material. Real learning comes when a child can read a text on their own level, and then apply those skills and standards taught in their own work. Finding the right reading material can be difficult and costly. That's where digital reading comes into play. With iPads, my students will be able to access reading material digitally, giving them the freedom to read a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction on their own reading level. Students will be able to access thousands of high-quality articles and ebooks, that they would otherwise not be able to access in our classroom library.
