Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students consist of sixth, seventh and eighth graders, many of whom lack the vocabulary and strategic skills needed to access text and become successful students and citizens of the world.

All of my classes consist of students whose reading levels range from below sixth grade level to above ninth.

Just as each student's abilities differ, their love of reading and the types of texts they enjoy differ as well. Our school houses a large ELL/ESL population. as well as an autistic spectrum disorder program, and many of the students in those programs are also in my class.

Our school is an inviting community of parents and teachers who strive to provide students with opportunities to showcase their artistic, musical, athletic, philanthropic and academic talents throughout the year. We provide multiple opportunities to strengthen our students' ties to the school and community by engaging staff, students and parents in events such as the Titan Challenge, Talent Show, and both Math and Literacy Nights.

My Project

Teacher Pay Teachers gift cards will allow me to purchase digital escape rooms and other engaging reading challenges that students can complete in class or at home.

These lessons and activities will increase metacognition (self-reflecting & thinking about thinking) and help to improve reading pace, and comprehension skills.

The materials you so generously donated will allow students to explore a variety of topics, as well as compete to solve reading challenges! Not only will students improve their metacognition and reading skills, but also their grit and growth mindset as well!
