Help me give my students a microscopic digital science experience. I need a digital microscope with USB connected camera to share scientific exploration to Middle School science students during distance learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a motivated group of Middle School Science and Engineering students at a Dual Immersion school in Oxnard, California. A high percentage of my students are English Language Learners and come from low-income households. For many of my students, they will be the first in their families to attend college and be bilingual.
Developing 21st-century skills for my science and engineering students will build a strong foundation for their future endeavors in math, science, and engineering.
This project cultivates communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills on a digital platform. My goal is to push these future scientists and engineers to problem-solve through collaboration and innovation. I hope to inspire these young minds to pursue their dreams in higher education and beyond!
My Project
Science learning is hands-on, inquiry-based, and exciting due to discoveries and "ah-ha" moments. In-person classroom instruction allowed for student groups to look at prepared slides of pond organisms, plant leaf variation, and other exciting biological phenomena. Students had the opportunity to discover and connect with NGSS cross-cutting concepts such as patterns and structure and function among other critical standards. These hands-on opportunities are not available to students this school year, but I am convinced I can bring fun back through my computer camera!
Inquiry discovery and excitement can happen during distance learning with the use of a digital USB camera microscope!
Please support this project and give my 7th and 8th grade students the opportunity to view cool microscopic specimens and discover the wonders of science.
More than half of students from low‑income households
