Our charter school is located in Charlotte's First Ward Neighborhood, with high rates of poverty and significant segregation and disparity in school quality. Students come from over 70 different schools - public, private, charter, and home schools - throughout the greater Charlotte area. Many of our students come from more traditional public school environments in which they struggled to be successful.
My classroom is filled with future scientists, engineers, mathematicians and inventors.
They excel when given the chance to learn by doing and the opportunity to solve real world problems. With potentially otherwise limiting factors, I hope to instill in my students a deep and lifelong engagement in STEAM and love for, authentic, hands-on learning.
My Project
Students learn best through authentic, hands-on experiences in which they are able to see, do, and experiment for themselves. The addition of this microscope to our science classroom will give students the opportunity to learn how to prepare slides and use a microscope like real scientists. Additionally, because the microscope is digital and can be projected on our existing smart screen, many students will be able to observe specimens being examined at the same time.
Our digital microscope will bring students' science learning to life, providing them the opportunity to see what would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye.
We'll put plant cells, animal cells, and more, under the microscope, turning abstract concepts into concrete, hands-on learning experiences.
