Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our small, rural school serves a low income/high poverty population based primarily on agriculture. My students come from hard-working families who may not be able to provide the needed academic support at home. With the limited resources available at a small underfunded school, my students often miss out on learning opportunities other students take for granted.
My students are creative, determined, motivated and struggling with learning disabilities, speech disorders and autism.
Despite their struggles, my classroom is a place where my students shine! We face each day as a fresh start and celebrate each hard-earned victory. My students are innovative and love exploring new ways to learn. Each student requires personalized attention to meet their specific needs. My classroom is a safe place where students feel supported and comfortable on their way towards success.
My students have made great progress this year and we are looking forward to meeting more milestones! Having special needs does not hold my students back from having big dreams and meeting big goals; it just requires some extra support.
My Project
My students struggle with learning disabilities that make reading and writing extremely difficult and frustrating. Providing my students with Avid Headphones with Microphones will allow my students to create and share math strategies with their classmates using Voice-to-Text technology. My students also need digital math tools like electronic flashcards and math PowerCards to make learning engaging and increase their motivation to work independently toward their math goals. Magnetic math manipulatives allow my students to work alongside the SmartBoard to increase their math fluency.
My students have incredible math minds and need the tools that will help them continue to shine!
My classroom is a safe place where students are free to explore as they develop the skills they need to succeed. We work hard and we celebrate each success.
My students need to continue to develop their math skills through the inclusion of technology. Each day we will work on creating and solving word problems, do group math with the magnetic math manipulatives, and rotate through basic math skills centers. This project will help my students build confidence as they will be equipped with the tools they need to access the curriculum and work with their peers.
