Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an urban setting of New England. The majority of my students are African American and Hispanic with more than 70% of them eligible for free or reduced meals. Many live in shelters or government project areas where the drugs and guns are the issues.

Some students live with foster parents with little or no chance to see their biological parents.

Some students only come during meal times so they can have a free meal that they can't get elsewhere. General speaking, they raise up by themselves with very limited guidance. With such kind of living environment, the school puts a large amount of budgets to support student meals and other basic living necessities. The teacher’s supply budget has to be cut off. We buy classroom supplies to support our own classes.

Even though our graduate rate is around 77%, I still truly believe that my students could achieve as much as the other corners of the world where the kids have more up to date school materials and supports. My intention is to get normal classroom supplies so that my students can have a better learning environment and experience.

My Project

Today, with tons of online teaching resources, very few math curriculums are designed for aligned the educational Common Core Standards. Study.com is one of the fewest. It gives math teachers a clear vision of contents aligned with the common core. It categorizes in the different levels: AP level, honor level, regular level.

For each course, there are syllabus, full curriculum, lesson plans, tons of practices, printable worksheets, quizzes, tests, and solutions to help teachers in 360 degrees.

It even has a pacing to align with today’s block schedules that changes the traditional one year course to one semester’s. Of course, it has a lot of bite-sized video lessons to help students engaged digitally during the pandemic period. It is, in deed, the best selection among the teaching resources out there. It is created by teachers for teachers.

With Study.com, my students can not only learn in the classroom, but also learn at home when it’s time they should stay home during the pandemics.
