BDJMS, an inner city school in Connecticut, is full of eager to learn, diverse students. My classes are made up of 7th and 8th grade students with a wide range of reading levels and interests, who need additional support with reading skills. All of my students read and discuss novels and participate in literacy rotations during Reading Lab, a class which pushes them learn new, challenging skills to help them grow as readers and as students.
During our rotations, students also use technology to practice their literacy skills, in addition to printed texts and word sorts.
I want to see my students engage with all various types of texts that keep them interested in reading and help them feel confident in their abilities.
My Project
Thanks to my amazing Donors Choose supporters, my students have more access to Chromebooks and digital literacy resources such as Lexia and myON. Now we are seeking storage solutions for that technology and a few more pairs of headphones.
These materials will keep our classroom technology organized and help my students access digital learning resources and online texts containing audio tools.
I want my students to continue to work together to keep our classroom resources neatly stored and in great working condition. In order to do this, they need a charging station that is easily accessible and stronger than our current cardboard storage shelves.
