My students need a mini ipad to help build a literacy center using ebooks.
My first grade students are beginning to lay the foundation of their education by learning to read. Many of my students do not have the resources at home to support their love for reading. I want to provide that love for reading with a digital library using mini ipads and ebooks!
Our school does not receive Title 1 funding although 74% of our students qualify and receive free/reduced lunch.
Our school must strive to meet the challenges of educating our children with little resources. The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and we also have a large English as a Second Language population. Many of my students live with limited income and their families feel the stress of our economy. Many of these students live with the basic needs and are not introduced to technology in the home. Some students are not given the extra reading time because the parents are working hard to provide the basics.
I am working hard to create a classroom that is enriched with literacy. I have purchased books to create a classroom library to meet the needs of all the different reading levels within my classroom. I would like to begin working on creating a digital library. This project would introduce the students to another form of technology besides the computer and would allow the students to be exposed to another form of reading. The mini ipad I am requesting would allow each student to create a bookshelf of ebooks that meet their individual reading levels. Students would be able to enhance their comprehension and word knowledge by engaging in activities about each book they have read. I hope this will create a spark for those students who do not like to read.
Reading is the foundation of all learning.
What better way to help a 6 or 7 year old get off to a great start by learning the love of reading and becoming a great reader! You can help lay the foundation for a classroom of first graders by helping us develop a digital library using mini ipads and ebooks!
