My Students
My ESL students are all the first generation of their families to live in the United States and derive predominately from Latino countries. Their parents speak little or no English.
We work hard to create a welcoming environment for our students and their families.
The students participate in a content based ESL program and are learning in classrooms with a majority of English speakers. Most of the students start kindergarten with no English. My students are hardworking, loving and loyal. They are always excited to learn and participate at school. The academic growth of the students show each year is astounding.
My Project
This year I have chosen two digital platforms to help engage my ESL students in learning and to get them excited about learning to read.
The first platform is nearpod, it allows the student to interact and respond to the lesson in real time.
Students can provide feedback to the teacher through games, writing, drawing, adding pictures and audio responses.
The RAZ kids subscription will allow me to teach guided reading digitally. The students will have access to a variety of texts at their reading level. The program also has texts that are translated into many languages!
