Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My diverse group of special needs students who are also English Language Learners are respectful, cooperative, and friendly in grades sixth, seventh, and eighth. They are in the lowest 25% of their grade level. More than three-quarters are from low-income households and the majority receive free lunch. Regardless of their hardships, they all show a desire to learn and aspire to be successful.
My goal is to become a Newsela Certified Educator, so I may gain insight in how to use technology to tailor, engage, motivate, and enhance students' learning through differentiated on-line daily reading activities.
To effectively teach students in a wide range of levels, I need many resources. Please award me with a Surface Pro, so I may acquire core skills through the Newsela Professional Development and Professional Learning Series, so I may incorporate the latest technology developments and trends in my classroom.
My Project
A Microsoft Surface Pro will help me become a Newsela Certified Educator by transforming my classroom for the 21st Century. I will be able to enhance student learning, increase reading engagement for students at all reading levels while meeting the unique educational needs of each learner through online differentiated instruction tailored for each learner.
I will enroll in the Newsela Professional Development and Professional Learning Series, so I may gain insight in how to use technology to tailor, motivate, inspire, and engage my students in daily customized reading lessons that are geared specifically to meet the needs of each learner.
The Microsoft Surface Pro will enable me to explore news articles and text sets for science, social studies, and literature. I will be able to customize reading and writing activities based on individualized student interest, as well as, practice on-line assigned quizzes. Furthermore, completing this professional development with Surface Pro will allow me to engage and experience reading from the perspective of a student by having the selected text read out loud, annotating as I read, transcribing into text what was said, and allowing me to highlight one section of the text at a time. As an educator, providing my students with explicit instruction and appropriate text, coupled with intrinsic motivation and interest in reading will yield proficient, steady, lifelong readers. By becoming a Newsela Certified Educator, I will be able to assign nonfiction article based on the daily news at five different Lexile levels, so all of my students can be reading and learning the same content, but on their own academic level.
Additionally, I will use the Surface Pro to research information, design interactive lessons, monitor students' progress, integrate websites into lesson presentation and engage students in collaborative work
