Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school's mission is to empower each student with global awareness, academic knowledge, technical skills and the core values necessary for successful futures. I service roughly forty-five seconders who are passionate about learning and steadily cultivating literacy preferences through the exposure of different genres and series.

Incorporating technology in the classroom always enhances student engagement which we intertwine with our balanced literacy program.

Students actively participate in a variety of whole-group, small group, and individualized activities related to a wide range of reading and writing experiences. These foundational reading skills are essential in preparing our students to develop technology savviness for our district's growing CONNECT program that gears them up for college readiness. Our school's balanced literacy program focuses on guided reading, a focused reading group that is organized, structured, planned, and supported by the teacher. Incorporating digital access to a wide variety of genres and types of books helps encourage student growth in background knowledge and foster interests amongst classmates and the wider school community in a subject they might not typically encounter within their immediate community traditionally. We serve students of all abilities ranging from special education, English language learners and gifted and talented students populations.

My Project

The requested iPads will assist with building skilled readers who are able to decode and comprehend texts. We utilize a variety of programs on our campus to encourage and nurture students love for reading like Accelerated Reader, iStation and a digital library resource called MyOn that offers access to books that students can read and have books read to them. This last part is vital in helping to service the needs of each and every single student in my classroom. All of this, without even mentioning the benefits of exposing my students to technology skills that are beneficial for future careers.

These iPads will allow access to an additional resource while giving students the power of unlocking their academic interests through literacy programs that will foster student growth and help close achievement gaps.

These literacy positive attitudes and profiles help develop internationally-minded students who become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others.
