School year 2022-2023 has started off amazingly well for my students. For many of them, this is their 3rd year attending our online public school. They are here by choice and they are working hard to learn everything that is expected of a 5th grader in North Carolina.
This project targets our need for a new document camera and the cost of renewing our subscription to BreakoutEdu.
In the rush to open our school in the fall of 2020, our district provided document cameras to assist with online teaching and learning. The trouble is, that camera does not stay connected. Maybe it is a faulty USB cord, or maybe it is a low-quality camera. Either way, it has not been effective. Much of the time, I have found digital solutions to work around that but some things really need to be shown via document camera. For example, when I want to work with the manipulatives students have been provided for math or when we are doing a science experiment together, there is really no substitute for a good document camera.
Our current subscription to Breakout Edu is coming to an end soon. My students are high achievers who love working together to solve standards-aligned puzzles found in the Escape Room game style of Breakout Edu. I don't want that critical thinking to be put on pause if we lose access to this effective tool.
