Sharing information digitally is not the wave of the future. It is here and now. I am a seventh grade science teacher in South Carolina. I also serve as the model technology lead teacher for my school. Students in our district participate in at least one integrated unit per year. Each year I have added an extra technology component to the seventh grade interdisciplinary unit on Diseases and the Course of Human History. The unit culminates with students generating a documentary indicative of the knowledge they have gained.
This year I would like for students to take their documentaries a step further by incorporating video into the public service announcements they create. My goal is for students video tape an interview with an expert in the medical field concerning the spread of disease and disease prevention. They would edit their video clips and incorporate the research they have conducted into one AWESOME public service announcement. My students would be ecstatic to be able enhance to their public service announcements with their own video footage. I have all of the software we need, but we lack a key component - a digital video camera.
This camera would not just collect dust during the rest of the school year! I also plan to use the video camera to record experiments being conducted by students in my science classroom. This would be a major asset for students who are absent on lab days. I often have to tell students that I am sorry they missed the opportunity to conduct an investigation. This is a wonderful next-best-thing that students could take advantage of when they are unable to attend school!
With your help, these goals can be achieved! Please consider funding my request. Thank you so much!
