Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of my students could easily have a future career in the media arts, but we need digital cameras in order to expose them to a more professional level of digital photography, graphic design, and videography.
My media arts students make me laugh every single day.
My students in this particular class are creative, kind, and funny kids. This class has a great community feeling and the students help and support each other.
These are teens from all over the city of Chicago that make up my wonderful, small and close-knit school in the Roscoe Village neighborhood. The school prides itself on its diversity (racially, socio-economically, and diverse learners), which can be rare in Chicago Public Schools. 81.5% of students are considered low income.
My Project
Students will use the digital cameras to take photos and videos, which they will learn to edit to create finished work. They will create instructional videos for use in the school, self-portrait videos, create stop motion animations and time lapse videos, and will learn and apply the fundamentals of photography while taking photos on walking field trips around the neighborhood and the city.
Students will learn how to do more than "point and shoot" with their phones. They will learn to appreciate the beauty surrounding them with the help of digital cameras. With the ability to take video, students will learn how to produce a polished video on a specified topic; a valuable skill for college and the real world.
