My Students

My students attend a residential school for the deaf/hard of hearing. My class is an elementary life skills class. They often socialize with one another and learn from each other throughout their academic day. The elementary life skills class learn basic life skills to help them throughout their own life in hopes that they will lead a full successful life after they graduate from their school. This school is like a second home from home for each of my students.

My Project

My elementary life skills student would benefit from using a digital camera in many ways. Children that are deaf/ hard of hearing tend to be visual learner. They are visually aware of the surrounding environment and changes. Using pictures helps improve students’ language and communication skills.

I frequently show my students pictures to help them connect on a personal level to the concept I am teaching.

A camera will benefit my students by giving them an opportunity to view photos and relive the experience. My students enjoy taking pictures and looking at themselves in pictures.

Student can use a camera to document experiences throughout their educational experiences. Students can use the camera to take pictures on community outings and on field trips. At school, student can use pictures to support writing activities. For my students, “a picture is worth a thousand words”.
