My Students
My students are enthusiastic learners. Everyday they would look forward to having Chinese class where they can learn to speak a new language and explore another culture that is very different from their own. They are curious about my culture and always ask all kinds of questions, like if I know how to do martial arts or if I eat rice everyday. It is a very interesting to teach these curious young minds.
My school is a Title I school where most students have free breakfast and lunch.
I can imagine the impact on them knowing a foreign language. I would like to do the best I can to equip them with the Chinese language skill in a fun and engaging way.
My Project
As a Chinese teacher, I have always been passionate about using technology in my class. It started when I took a class called Digital Story Telling in graduate school. I was introduced tons of apps, websites, or tools to teach a foreign language and I could not wait to apply technology in my own classroom. The chrome book laptops will support my students' language literacy in so many different ways: my students can learn how to type in Chinese; they can play online games(for example, Quizlet live) to reinforce their vocabulary; they can watch Chinese videos and answer embedded questions to improve their listening skills; they can do research on a given topic for Chinese project(for example, they recently did a travel brochure for a city they choose); they can record their own voices of making a dialogue and turn it into an animated video(sock puppets); and the list goes on and on.
Compared to a non-digital classroom, instruction can become more engaging and meaning when technology is used effectively.
Please support my technology integrated Chinese class by donating to my project!
