Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We're a very active Kindergarten. Students are always on the move to centers and guided reading or math groups to learn the standards we are trying to cover and keep them engaged. We love to use technology in centers and guided groups, as well as in our thematic units.
I have a classroom with students ranging from Kindergarten in abilities below grade level with special needs to above.
We have a wide range of abilities which need major differentiation. The wonderful thing about my class is that students can work at their own ability level. I do not like to limit my students to what is taught at their grade level. On the other hand, I have students who are working at a slower pace. We are working on being good leaders in our community by learning manners and treating others with kindness.
My Project
Our kindergartners love sensory play. Sensory play is such an important part of early childhood development. The sand table will be a popular center each day in our classroom. The sand table will be used in both math and language arts. Students will dig and build on their skills during center work. The sand table is versatile and can be used with sand, water, beads and various items to match our kindergarten themes. My young learners enjoy moving and exploring new things.
Using a sand table will allow my students to move, explore and learn.
A new sand table and materials will jump start more creative play in our classroom.
