This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is in the process of turning our courtyard into a beautiful vegetable and flower garden. All students from pre-k through fifth grade will have an opportunity to get their hands dirty.
Hopefully, getting to experience digging, planting and harvesting from our small school garden will encourage the students to spend more time outdoors when they are not at school.
Getting the opportunity to witness the life cycle of insects that are native to our area such as the Monarch and Gulf fritillary butterflies will be something that most of our students have never seen. In addition, we will monitor weather, including flood and drought conditions, and how they affect the flowers and vegetables.
Here's hoping that our gardening project will generate future farmers and gardeners! Thank you for your consideration.
