My Students
I teach within a Title I school where many of my students come from diverse backgrounds. These students that I have the privilege of seeing every day are all unique in their own special ways. I feel lucky to have them for they all bring something different to our daily Zoom meetings, and in person classes.
Despite some of the hardships that some of them may face at home, my students come every day with a welcoming smile and a ready to learn attitude, eager to pick up right where we left off from the previous day.
There is nothing more that I want than to give these kids somewhat of a "normal" school year and the ability to read one of my favorite books.
My Project
As one of my all time favorite books, I want to share with my students the same excitement and adventure I felt while reading. With these books, my students will take the place of a camper at Camp Green Lake. They will experience the unfortunate bad luck of Stanley Yelnats and his family’s curse all brought on to them by his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather. Yet, they will also be able to piece the story together through flashbacks that it is Stanley who breaks the family’s curse unknowingly, and that everything happens for a reason.
Nothing is more fulfilling as an ELA teacher than seeing my students be so enthralled in a book, they don’t want to put it down.
