Digging Deeper Into Reading

My students need 5 Acer Chromebooks to enhance reading skills and to further engage students with text. They will be used to read current events, articles from various websites, and to create book projects.

My Students

Most of my students range from low to mid socioeconomic levels. They are good kids that are eager to learn and strive for success. My school is located in a small town and is near a military installation, which gives us a wide variety of student diversity in our school. This diverse population is beneficial for everyone, teaching students about different cultures and life styles. The school has been in existence for over 40 years; we are one of five middle schools in our district. We house over 600 students and our students come from several of our nearby elementary schools and surrounding small towns

My Project

Reading is an everyday activity in my classroom. With reading comes the many literary elements, figurative language, genres, plots, and purpose for reading. Using technology will allow my students to explore reading at a deeper level; while connecting with the many forms of reading available today.

Through the use of technology my students will be able to create projects and activities to enhance reaching skills.

This will allow students to become independent readers and thinkers. Students will also learn through music using technology to identify literary elements, and how music and poetry are related. While working with peers to work collaboratively to achieve success and understanding.

The use of technology will allow for differentiation so students can work at their ability level. They will be able to access sites such as NEWS ELA, Read works, NoRedInk, and Flocabulary. Students will also be using Google for Education to create projects and activities to go along with reading materials.

The reading projects will also bring in other content areas such as science and social studies. Students will learn how to connect what they are learning in reading to these content areas. Understanding realistic fiction. non-fiction, current events, historical fiction, scientific articles, and stories.
