My Students

We are a third-grade classroom in a low-income school, located in a rural North Carolina county. Our county is forward thinking and student-centered, and practices inclusion which benefits all students and sets up a pattern of tolerance and understanding.

This means that our classroom community is very diverse.

We have students on all different levels, who come from many different backgrounds. Reaching every child where they are is our ultimate goal. We strive as a school to meet each child's individual needs.

My Project

I chose these specific titles to give students some insight into different genres. "Who was Walt Disney?" will give students the opportunity to read a nonfiction text on a subject that interests them. "Freckle Juice" and "Third Grade Angels" are fictional stories that will entertain students but also introduce many new skills and concepts. "The One and Only Ivan will allow students to learn about an actual event, but through a very unique fictional perspective; That of the Gorilla! The teachers guide for this book will benefit myself and the students as it offers unique insight and resources to go along with the text.

Each of these texts will deepen students understanding and comprehension of different types of literature.
