Digestive System Model for IB Biology

My Students

Biology is a required subject. IB Biology and IB Environmental Systems and Societies are elective advanced field science course. We live in the most amazing place, the Oregon Coast. Though my students may not be financially rich, our place is very rich with natural wonders.

I try to motivate students by engaging with the world about them.

Some have never even looked around the outside world!

They love getting outside and are generally excited about learning science and the natural world we live in. Students are more motivated when I combine hands-on science learning and apply it to real-world concepts. I love place-based learning and STEM projects to get them engaged.

My Project

We need 3D models to help master IB Biology Anatomy Standards. I am teaching IB Biology for the first time this year, and trying to gather all the models of the human body systems.

I just got funded (through DonorsChoose) a heart, brain and a kidney model!

Now we need to add the digestive system to continue to learn the form and function of these organs.

Many of my IB Biology students want to pursue careers in the medical field, and when learning anatomy, hands-on is the way to go. I hope to build anatomy model kits for every organ and IB Biology standard.
