Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to ask questions and discover the answer, but struggle to find the means to properly share their findings with others. In a COVID-friendly classroom, group work and peer interaction are challenging. However, technology is used to bring science to life in a way we never could before.
Unfortunately, we are lacking some of the tools necessary to make lessons more accessible to those who struggle with reading complex texts and visualizing complex concepts.
Without financial support from the district, it is hard to gather materials to create projects and keep students engaged and on pace with state learning standards.
My Project
Due to COVID, students entered my classroom this year with a greater variety of reading levels and background knowledge of science. In our high needs environment (co-teaching environment), students need a variety of different supports to help them be successful in our classroom.
These headphones will allow students to have articles read-aloud and better access demonstrations/videos, which will help them grasp concepts in a more meaningful way.
During readings, students can play/pause audio which will help pace their learning, encourage annotations, and better access the text.
While there are many videos and simulations in our lessons, a small SMARTboard and spaced out students sometimes make the images difficult to see. Headphones will help students connect better with challenging concepts when they hear and see videos on their own device.
