My fourth grader students are a fantastic bunch of scholars, whom love to learn about Hawaiian history, science, reading, writing, and mathematics. As an inclusion classroom we have students who learn differently and require differentiated instruction (small group rotations). This usually looks like half of the class learning at their seats and the other half working with me on the floor. With our limited space and furniture, students are struggling to write, read and learn especially when we work on the floor.
In an effort to make our inclusion classroom more flexible for the variety of different learners we would like to give students portable desks and a classroom carpet to support small group instruction!
The challenges our students face at home are evident (as we are a Title 1 school), but they amaze me everyday with their abilities to overcome and learn. My students are optimistic, creative, forward-thinking problem solvers who LOVE to learn. This is why they deserve a classroom that functions for them and enables them to learn!
Mahalo for helping our fourth-grade keiki (children) learn and grow!
My Project
Inclusion classrooms require teachers to differentiate learning to meet the needs of all students! There is no one size fits all when it comes to teaching in an inclusion classroom. My students love to work in small groups but we don't have that much space or furniture to do this effectively.
This is why we need a carpet seating and portable desks to allow for small group instruction.
The students will be able to work with others classmates and/or me in small groups to learn and solve problems. The carpet seating will provide students with their own space as well as a comfort. The portable desks will provide students with a desk to write, read, and use laptops to facilitate learning in small groups at the carpet! We are looking forward to using these resources to further our learning of Hawaiian History, Science, Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
