I am an Intervention Specialist who services the needs of students with disabilities in the general education, English I classroom in a large urban school district. I co-teach with a phenomenal English teacher and together, we have seen an urgency for differentiation that will meet a variety of needs.
My students face many challenges academically, economically and emotionally, but they are strong and resilient!
They amaze me each day as they grow and learn.
I want desperately to be able to provide a classroom that is nurturing, rigorous and responsive to their needs. They overcome so many obstacles and I want only to provide a space where they feel valued, loved and supported.
My Project
My students come to class with a wide range of reading skills and listening centers will provide differentiated support for students with reading disabilities, students who learn better from listening and students who are learning English as a second language.
I selected CD boom boxes over the ear headphones and sound splitters to create listening centers for students who need audio support for the wide reading projects in our classroom.
My students have a lot of freedom to choose self-selected texts and participate in student-led Literature Circles. Providing listening centers will help to support their needs in a diverse and word-rich environment.
