Although this is my sixth year teaching, I am new to fourth grade. I've found that using differentiated learning activities in my classroom helps students learn independently and enthusiastically. This philosophy is based on the belief that you teach a child what they need whether it is remediation or acceleration. I love teaching my kids in this manner, but I need more resources to go with my varied lessons. These materials would be used in small group activities with a teacher/volunteer or independently.
I teach at Mt. Zion Elementary in Johns Island, SC. Our school is a small, rural school with a predominately African American and Hispanic population. Over 90% of students are on Free/ Reduced lunch. I will have 27 students in my fourth grade classroom next year.
