My students need Wobble chairs and cushions, reclining seats, lap trays, metal stack stools, and yoga mats to feel comfortable and focused throughout the school day.
The students that walk into my classroom bring a backpack full of more than just folders with them each morning. Their backpacks are full of emotions, thoughts, and experiences that shape their day to day lives.
Each child comes from a different culture and background bringing various perspectives and challenges into our classroom.
The majority of our students come from low-income families that work hard to support their families but are barely getting by. Along with the lack of income, language is also a barrier for many students and their families. The language barrier makes it difficult for students and parents to understand and feel comfortable in our formal education system. While some students struggle with language, others face difficult experiences outside of the school setting. These experiences follow students into the classroom where we in turn work to help them find their confidence and self-worth.
Despite all of the "stuff" these students are carrying in their backpacks, they are open-minded to the differences our school has, they are eager to find success, and they never give up.
My Project
No two classrooms, teachers or students are the same. All are different shapes, sizes and colors. So why shouldn't our work spaces and seating reflect those differences?
I am requesting multiple forms of seating for my classroom to meet the different needs of my first graders.
Requested flexible seating choices include Wobble Plastic Chairs, reclining seats, Wobble Cushions, Lap Trays, metal stack stools, and yoga mats. Whether a student likes to lay down on a yoga mat, or rock back and forth in a Wobble Chair, they should be able to choose a space that helps them reach their full potential.
By giving students a choice of seating they can feel engaged, focused and comfortable throughout the school day. With the help of generous donors, I can create a successful learning environment for all of my students.
