Different Learning Styles Need Flexible Working Styles!
My students need items such as clip boards, lap desks, stools, and dry erase boards to give them a choice of where and how they will engage in learning based on what works best for them.
I teach fifth grade at a rural, Title I elementary school. My classroom consists of 22 students who walk into my classroom from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Each of my students will have varying learning styles and abilities based on their individual needs. My goal as their teacher is to meet each of my students' learning needs and make them feel welcome and at home in my classroom. In order to do this I hope to provide my students with a wide range of seating arrangements and resources that will help promote their learning. Students spend a majority of their day at school, so it is important to me that my students feel comfortable in my classroom and are able to fully benefit from their learning experience.
My Project
My students need a variety of alternative seating arrangements to allow them to have a choice in where and how they work!
Allowing them the opportunity to choose if they would like to work at their desk, in a small group at a stool, privately behind a privacy shield, or on the carpet with a clipboard, will help them become more engaged, happy, and focused in the lessons that they are completing.
The movable dry erase board and easel will allow me to comfortably move around the room to meet with small groups of students while easily presenting the material being taught to them. The easel that I currently have is big and bulky with sticky wheels that make it hard to move around my room. In my previous year teaching, I allowed my students to sit at bean bag chairs, folding chairs, and on the rug when completing their work. I personally feel that giving them this freedom promoted more time spent on task and fewer distractions and negative behavior. Now I need your help to give my students more of these options that I cannot afford to provide myself! Thank you for all your help!
