Different Classroom for Different Learners

My students need items in our room that make them comfortable to learn. Alternative seating such as benches and floor pillows to stimulate their minds! My students need alternative options to accommodate their different learning styles.

My Students

Our school year has been like no other so far. We were scheduled to start school mid August. Our staff had spent two weeks preparing for the upcoming year participating in professional development and decorating our classrooms. We held "Meet the Teacher" and met all of our sweet kiddos and parents.

By the end of our two weeks, we were beginning to worry about Hurricane Harvey coming near us.

We left the last day of our professional development with excitement to start the year. Soon, tropical Storm Harvey would devastate Vidor, Texas. Photos began to surface of our campus . . . flooding and total loss.

Sadness, fear, destruction and worry had hit VMS. We waited daily to hear when our new start date would be and when we would be able to assess the damages. We finally received the call that we had just a couple of hours to clear out anything salvageable from our rooms. We had to move to a wing of the high school. Some of us had years of collections in our room that were destroyed.

My Project

Not every student learns the same! I have selected items such as a bookcase, rolling file, as well as cushioned benches, floor pillows and a plush rug for students to sit on to encourage better thinking. This will allow the students to utilize alternative learning methods when they struggle traditionally. The stoorage will help us stay organized and working hard!

Flexible seating and a more comfortable environment reaches students that struggle with basic desks. By having more seating and a more comfortable environment, students will be able to adapt to their needs easier.
