My students are from the highest of poverty backgrounds. They are not usually exposed to positive learning challenges outside of school. We are a smaller school in a very large school district.
They are in my Gifted and Talented classroom.
They are problem solvers with growth mindsets. When they encounter a problem, they don't stop at "I don't get it." They say, "I don't get it yet." We incorporate STEAM into our class as much as possible to grow our minds and help us develop strategies and new ways to look at challenges!
My Project
These books and games centered around cultures and civil rights will help give my students not only an understanding of people who may be different than us, but also an appreciation of the places and cultures from which they inhabit.
My students will learn about all aspects of various cultures.
The game "Cultures of the World" delves into celebrations, food, art, clothing, languages, and child-rearing methods in a plethora of geographical locations.
Books such as Let's Talk About Race center on age-appropriate ways to talk about this sensitive topic in a way that celebrates our differences while showing children that we aren't so different than other people after all.
Cultural intelligence is imperative for a global understanding. This is a major area of learning in my Gifted and Talented classroom.
