My Students

My students come from poverty stricken homes and most don't know how good it feels to succeed. My classroom is a second grade integrated room in New York. A lot of my students come from broken homes or live with other relatives because their parents have made a wrong choice in their lives. All of my students are visual learners and my school doesn't have the resources that the teachers need. Technology is one of these resources. I have 8 special education students in my room that need more support. I want to ensure that I am doing everything I can to help them succeed. I can't tell you how many times I have looked over and seen the tears of my students because they are frustrated. They have it in them to be great learners and it is my responsibility to make this happen.

My Project

My students will benefit so much from all of these materials. The jumbo timers will provide the visual my students need and will make them more independent while allowing me time to teach the group I am with. The ten frames and dice will be so concrete for my class and they will be able to show their thinking. Everyone loves money! They will learn how to count change and maybe even be able to use this skill in the store with their parent. First graders need hands-on materials and tools for the best learning to take place. We read all day. With the requested math stories, we will be able to read even more and make connections.
