My Students
I am a teacher of silly, eager-to-learn second graders. We have a lot of fun while learning. They love trying new things in class and are always excited about new projects. Because of these kids, I've found my love for teaching again!
My kiddos come in all shapes and sizes.
They have different skill and ability levels. Not only that, but they're also coming to school with different backgrounds, culturally and socioeconomically.
It is important to me to give them the best instruction possible. I want them to finish second grade with a passion for learning, a love of reading, independence, and confidence in themselves to never give up.
My Project
Second graders are at the age where they are still concrete thinkers. Abstract concepts such as numbers in base 10 and life cycles are still difficult to visualize.
By providing students with more concrete examples, such as manipulatives or real-life experiences, they are more likely to not only remember the concepts, but also understand the concepts.
The math manipulatives, base 10 blocks and play money, will give my students something to have in their hands while solving problems to help them visualize and feel the "abstract" concepts. The incubator and butterfly habitat will provide my students the opportunity to see a life-cycle in action and they will be experiences that will stick with them throughout their lives.
