My Students

My fifth grade language arts class loves to read. Many of my students come from low income and bilingual homes where one or both parents work long hours and can not help them due to the language barrier. Most of my students don't even own their own books. Many of my students only get to read engaging and high interest books at school. It's my goal to get all of them on grade level in reading and to enjoy reading just for fun.

My Project

The books that I am asking for, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, is a new spin on several classical Greek myths. My students will be actively engaged while reading about a special boy that is around their age.

Your generous donations will help me teach my students important reading and critical thinking skills that will help them be successful not only in school but in life as well.

I will be able to work on increasing reading fluency and stamina and foster creativity and hopefully a life-long love of reading. In addition, students will be able to analyze, evaluate the text and create their own pieces of work.
