This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are avid word collectors! We love the way new words roll off our tongues and we love the way they look in our stories and essays. We want to continue our discovery but our dictionaries we have now are missing so many words and there are not enough for the kids in our class.
We are a special education class in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
We have a great school and we love our community. We are a small class. There is only 12 of us. We are more like a family than a class. We love history, science and art. Math, reading and writing can be hard for us but we work really hard to be independent and master those skills that are difficult for us. The boys in our class love wrestling and the girls love Justin Bieber. Our favorite time of day is read aloud and gym.
My Project
These dictionaries will be a great gift to our classroom. As part of our Word Study routine we have to define our words of the week. Many of us are learning how to use dictionaries for the first time ever and need extra help using them. We would like this dictionary because it has lots of pictures, bold print, pronunciations, parts of speech and text features that make it easy for us to find our words of the week. We know that dictionaries seem out-dated in our digital world but there are so many important skills you use when using a dictionary. Our alphabetizing skills are poor and regular use of a dictionary will help them improve. We are learning how to skim and scan to find information quickly. It's not just about collecting words and enriching our vocabularies - it's about learning how to find information quickly and efficiently!
Please make a donation to our dictionaries.
We would really like to use dictionaries that are easy to use and hold thousands of new words to learn! By donating to this project, you will help us write engaging and interesting stories and essays, improve our spelling and reading and enrich our conversations!
