I am blessed to spend each day with a great bunch of 2nd graders who are eager to learn! The majority of my students qualify for free or reduced lunches and often don't have a lot of learning opportunities available to them.
In 2nd grade we teach dictionary skills. Throughout the year we learn skills such as, using guide words, different parts of a dictionary entry, and entry words. It is a unique challenge to try to teach 25 or more students how to use a dictionary with only two dictionaries in the classroom. Not only that but they aren't even the same dictionary.
My students need 25 dictionaries so that each student will have their own dictionary to manipulate and use as we learn the different dictionary skills. We will also be able to use the dictionaries in learning our vocabulary words and parts of speech as well as alphabetizing.
Your help will ensure that my students will be able to have a hands on experience in learning a skill that they will use throughout their entire lives.
