Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This fall, I will be teaching at a newly opened K-2 school in Oakland, California. The families in this area of east Oakland suffer financial struggles and are not able to provide the necessary school resources for their children. The school district is also struggling financially thus funding for the school is limited. As we will be moving into a former middle school, most of our school budget will be devoted to basic items (student chairs, student desks, etc.). I would like to ask for 20 children's dictionaries and thesauruses. I will be teaching 2nd grade and following my students through 5th grade so these reference materials will be used by the same students for the next 4 years. It's critical that my students have access to dictionaries and thesauruses so they can enhance their vocabulary, identify synonyms and antonyms, and identify unfamiliar words. These reference materials will be especially useful for my English language learner students, most of whom are transitioning from a bilingual program. Thank you so much!
