Help me give my students DICTIONARIES.
Dictionaries are essential to help students assimilate into their adoptive culture, language, and country.
These dictionaries will be used in class and state tests instead of digital translators.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many fresh arrivals use digital aids to translate their assignments. In doing so, they often fail to apply the necessary rigor to meld their new language into their daily vocabulary. I still have the dictionary with which I learned English. It is still wrapped in the same gift-wrapping paper I used to protect its cover 40 years ago. I hope my students will appreciate these books you help get to them as much as I did.
ELL students need English-Spanish dictionaries to:
Bridge the language gap: These dictionaries provide essential translations that help ELL students understand new English vocabulary and concepts.
Reinforce learning: By consulting a dictionary, students can verify their understanding of words and phrases, solidifying their knowledge.
Improve reading comprehension: Dictionaries can aid in deciphering unfamiliar words and phrases encountered in English texts, enhancing reading comprehension.
Expand vocabulary: By exploring the dictionary, ELL students can discover new words and their meanings, enriching their language skills.
Support writing: Dictionaries can be invaluable resources for finding appropriate words and phrases to express ideas effectively in written assignments.
Overall, English-Spanish dictionaries serve as essential tools for ELL students, facilitating their language acquisition and academic success.
