The end of summer means the 2018-2019 school year is about to begin. I teach 5th and 6th grade English. Many of the students coming up I have already taught, and I can't wait to get to know my new 5th graders!
Oklahoma is facing huge budget cuts and it has been difficult to get the books that we need.
My students are deserving of access to new books for research projects and daily vocabulary work. We use dictionaries every day in our classroom.
My Project
This class set of dictionaries will be put to good use. The use of dictionaries is a part of our everyday classroom activities. One of the greatest skills a reader can have is the ability to look up and clarify words in their text.
A dictionary is a tool students can learn to rely on as a key to new understanding.
This tool has the potential to improve reading skills, oral vocabulary, and the written voice. I have very old dictionaries in my classroom and they are falling apart. I hope to have a brand new set to start off the new school year!
